Access from NYC – by bus, train and car rental…..
You can take the MTA Hudson line to Poughkeepie from Grand Central Station and rent a car from Avis, Enterprise or Hertz, then drive here this works all weekdays and some part of weekends.
www.nyairportservice.com – airport bus from all NYC airports to several locations – Grand Central (Hudson line MTA) , Port Authority (Bus) or Penn Station (Amtrac)
MTA - mass transit info for train service (Hudson river line)
Rental cars in Poughkeepsie & Hudson: Hertz | Enterprise | Avis
You can take the Amtrak from Penn Station to Hudson and rent a car from Enterprise, take a taxi ($40-50 each way) if you can access one (call Smiley’s in Tannersville at 518-589-6533) and make arrangements for pick up and pricing.
You can take Adirondack Trailways from Port Authority to Hunter by bus - they arrive twice daily - noon and 9:00 pm but check their schedules as they change often. More stops by this company in Phoencia and arrange to have a Smiley’s cab pick up there... Bus service 2x daily to Hunter, 2x daily out of Hunter and also to Phonecia.
If you do drive Poughkeepsie is the best option depending on the date and time with a rental from Enterprise, Avis or Hertz - they will pick you up at the station and then when you are done with the rental you bring it back to their location and they will drop you again. Only weekends are problematic at any of them.
