Hunter Mountain's Best Kept Lodging Secret

Americans with Disabilities Act

It is our understanding that the ADA requirements for our property are required but flexible due to our designation as an Historic Property. Because of this designation exterior changes to the building are not normally applicable or allowed. We have that designation both at the State and Federal level as the “Harry Fischel House”.

To be as handicapped friendly as possible we have made accommodations to our property. We have a compliant wheel chair ramp with access from the rear parking lot in the rear of the building to minimize its visual impact. It is accessible to the parking lot. This allows handicapped access to the ground floor porch, ground floor rooms, all the common areas and ground floor porches of the house are accessible. This is the primary entrance to the property.  You can access the patio and downstairs gardens by taking the ramp to that level.

We have a downstairs room (Spring Valley) that is handicapped accessible. It can be accessed with a wheelchair but access to the toilet is restricted due to spacing between the wall and shower. There is a grab bar to assist with movement to the toilet. The toilet was upgraded to a taller seat to accommodate guests. This room has a sink that is wheelchair accessible and a 4” lip on the shower to navigate for showering. The innkeeper having broken his ankle in 2018 used this ground floor room with a wheel chair so it is navigable dependent on an individual’s needs.  You can contact the innkeeper for more information if you have questions. He lives on site so is generally available if guests need him for assistance and can remove a chair or whatever to make it more comfortable for guests.

The four common area rooms are also accessible from the rear downstairs porch. The dining room can accept a wheelchair by removing one of the dining chairs for breakfast. The half bath in that downstairs area is accessible with grab bars to assist. It is the most useable as the space in front of the sink and toilet is ample. All spacing in the downstairs common area rooms allows for wheelchairs.

If you have any questions about the accessibility of any area, room or property please contact the innkeeper at the main phone number which is P: 518-263-5025 or C: (973) 931-2093  and we would be happy to assist you.

"Incredible" Reviewed February 5, 2013: I stayed at Fairlawn Inn during my skiing trip to Hunter Mountain; I must say that I didn't expect it to be SO good! The house itself is a beautifully restored Victorian mansion.
